Due to the enourmous positive feedback about the sinedots filter I decided to release a slightly advanced version. Basically it's the same effect with a few extensions:

  • enhanced antialias
  • color support
  • blend modes
  • more parameters for enhanced control
  • 16Bit support
  • enhanced compatibilty

To get started you can read this tutorial by Sally Beacham or this one by Patti. Sally also gives lessons at www.lvsonline.com where Sinedots is beeing used in the 'Filter Frenzy 3' class.

Compatibilty:
Following is a compatibilty list to the best of my knowledge. If you can report on any different program (Version) please do so!!! There still might be some bugs in there which are hard to detect due to all the possible setups.

This plugin has successfully been tested on:

  • Photoshop 6.0, 5.5, 4.0
  • Image Ready 3.0, 2.0s
  • Paint Shop Pro 7.04, 6.0, 5.03
  • PhotoImpact 6
  • Corel PhotoPaint 7
  • Metacreations Classic Painter
  • Macromedia Fireworks 2, MX
  • MetaCreations Bryce 4
  • 3d Max 4.2
  • Image Composer 1.5
  • Ultimate Paint 2.83
  • photoSEAM 1.0
  • photo-Brush 1.95
  • Gimp 1.2.4 for Windows
  • Digital Image Pro 9
Some hosts report an error -128 on cancel which is uterly stupid because due to the Photoshop SDK this indicates just that the operation was canceled. Problems have been reported with:
  • Satori PhotoXL -- Crashes on second call. Effect is beeing applied on resize.
  • MetaCreations Painter 5.5 Web Edition -- Problems with preview size != 100%
  • Adobe Premiere 5.1c -- crashes
  • Macromedia Director 6.5 -- Problems with preview size != 100%
  • Paint Shop Pro 4.15 SE -- Problems with preview size != 100%
These host programm will most likely not be supported in future Versions because their lack of support for the Photoshop Standard. Maybe later host Version will work.

Another important point for me are the blend modes. They are subject to change. I would appreciate any feedback on my blending modes. This filter generates a black non transparent rgb imge with the sinedots added to it. I.e. the 'Normal' mode is a common alpha blend and thus in this filter 'Normal' blending just replaces the input image. Please keep that in mind.

Download SinedotsII for windows here (142kb, requires win32 and a Photoshop 3.01+ compatible host). There is no Mac version! Probably there will never be one. Sorry. (last updated on 13th of November 2001)
